Payday loans are short-term loans of $1500 or less granted by a bank or other lender. This publication will guide you through the laws that apply to payday loans in Alberta, including those that protect the consumer. It will also discuss what might happen if you cannot pay your payday loan, including consumer rights when dealing with debt collection. This publication will also provide you with tools to deal with debt, including information on debt repayment agencies, credit counselling, and bankruptcy.
